The argument could be made that za’atar is the spiced flavor of the Middle East. This savory spice can top breads, mix into cheese, flavor stir-fries, stews and meats. We love to sprinkle it into a bit of oil and dip bread and vegetables in the mix.
55 g hyssop/origanum syriacum
20 g sumac spice
15 g sesame seeds
5 g salt
Blend the spices together in a strong blender. Store in mason jars, or tupperware in a cool, dry place.
- makes apprx. 95g, or ½ cup of za’atar
